tonight was katie couric's first night on the CBS Evening News. I wasn't a huge fan of her suit, so I think I'll stick with brian williams.
I read in the Chicago Tribune today that Marshall Fields is closing, well, becoming Macy's. I wouldn't consider myself a Chicagoan (?) and the store really doesn't have a special place in my heart or checkbook, (clearly because I'm a poor liberal arts major) but I think it's kind of sad. I mean, Marshall Fields is kind of historical. Your thoughts?
last weekend was fun - I always enjoy going to bettendorf. I won Trivial Pursuit and 2 out of 3 games of Uno. Good quality time with the family. Really, it's just comic relief all around. Mom, Soo, and Dad are always good for a laugh, and I'm pretty sure Mary and I brighten up their lives a bit. And since Katie's never there, we just make up stories about how she is never going to get married. It's okay Kate, Mom says one in four women doesn't get married. I mean, we know Mary has to have a man in her life, Soo is the prettiest (because she's a petite and beautiful asian) and, well, you know me. ;) jk kate, we love you.
looks like I have to stay in town this weekend because I work Friday night. One of the girls in my pledge class has a house on Panorama Lake (3ish hours west of IC - by DM?) so everyone is headed up there and I was actually looking forward to it, despite the small issue of not having a swimming suit. my performance at work was less than stellar last week, so I'm not about to ask Mike to do me any favors. There's a wiffleball philanthropy on Sunday, so maybe I'll do that. I mean, I don't know if you know this about me, but I'm pretty much a wiffleball champion. Or, I will be after. And I can spend some time studying and running.
facebook has remodeled its look and added new features -- more features than I would ever add to my blog. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can blog on facebook. Everyone used to use facebook to creep on their friends...to check their profiles, pictures, etc. The creeping has been taken to an entirely new level because facebook now does the creeping for you. The News Feed on your welcome screen tells all of your friends account activity in the past 10 days (who wrote on someone's wall, what groups they joined, whose friendship they accepted, when they broke up with their boyfriend, what pictures they commented on, and what their newest favorite books, music, movies, and activities are, and what blogs their name has been mentioned in, etc..)I'm half expecting a list of people who have clicked on my name next time I sign on. I joined a group petitioning the new do around five hours ago, and there were about 11,500 members. There are no 70,500. it really is insane.
today in management, my professor talked about Edward Deming, a statician from Sioux City, who figured out some things about quality control during the 1900s. Manufacturers in the US used the techniques during the war, but after became more concerned with getting the product out, regardless of poorer quality, figuring there was no competition. Deming was sent to postwar Japan to conduct a population and industry census and started telling them about his theories. Tokyo Communications, aka Sony, among other Japanese companies particularly involved in the production of electronics (vehicles, too) adopted them and basically became the best at what they do. The Japanese even have a Deming prize that is awarded to manufacturers who excel using his quality control methods. Funny how things work out.
i think thats all for tonight. keep it real, playas :)

For the business students in the crowd, Deming is given credit for the Total Quality Management (TQM) movement in business management. TQM was a complete failure at HBC CPAs. The owners couldn't get excited themselves. How could employees do anything but smirk? It makes for good humor over drinks whenever the topic is remembered.
instead of going to panorama lake you could drive home real quick and go to panorama park. same thing, right?
i would like comment on katie couric's 20lb weight loss in her cbs press picture. your thoughts?
For the Art History students in the crowd...wait there are none. Thats ok. I talked to a lady on our King Tut trip and she asked what I wrote my senior paper on and I told her and she was actually interested. She hugged me at the end of the trip. The paper was on Antonio Gaudi. He's a Spanish architect. Google him. You'll hate everything he did.
I didn't watch Katie. I don't like her. Actually, I don't really like to watch the news in general. I can never follow what they are saying when the talk about politics, war, money. I prefer perezhilton.com. Thats my kind of news. Check it out. You'll hate it (yet you'll be addicted to it).
And that is all I have. It's past 5 - I'm going to go work out!!!
BTW. I have to quit this job. Today I cleaned out my desk. I am going to rewrite my resume completely and submit it...somewhere Maybe next year Mary and I can live it up in Chicago!!
