But I don't want to go to school today.

Today was the first day of registration for the Spring '09 semester. Because I have more credits than most super seniors, I was authorized at some outrageous time like 7 this morning. Clearly, I slept 'til noon and forgot until tonight.

Still, I got all signed up for the classes I "wanted" because classes never fill on the first day of registration. The registrar staggers how many students register a day, and your placement in the line up depends on how many credits you've taken. Those with the most credits are the highest priority. Most freshmen won't register for two more weeks.

I remember having to rearrange my schedule several different times as a freshmen because classes would fill before I was authorized to register. Then, I sat at a computer, logged on to ISIS, ready to go the minute my authorization cleared. My friends and I even ranked classes in order of preference and registered in that order, in case they filled during the registration process.

The funny thing is, several times throughout my career I've changed classes during the final days of winter or summer vacation. Because what you sign up for in April might not be what you want in September. With add / drop slips you can almost customize your schedule after the semester has begun. I wish I knew that my first two years.

And now, as a senior, I can sign up for any class I want. But I'm not taking classes I want. I'm avoiding classes that I'd like to take and instead signed up for classes that sound completely uninteresting. And I'm taking 6 hours of class on Fridays. All so I have long chunks of time to intern.

It better be worth it. Because I could care less about American Public Policy or the Government and Politics of China. At least, I think those are the classes I'm taking...
