Today was a big day. Up early to finish preparing for a 9:30 AM exam, then class all afternoon. Work tonight started late afternoon and I got off 10:30ish. We taped the Dance Gala at Hancher. Mike let us have a McDonalds run for supper. Since I'm eating healthy and everything, I forked over the extra dollars to have a salad instead of some of the $1 Menu's grade F hamburger.
I mean, I know I'm not very artistic. Actually, I'm a decent artist for only having mild training through junior high school. But I don't think that artistically. For instance, I will never take another film class again. I never have things to say about the elements and underlaying mean and yatta yatta yatta. I think my film teacher is vey boring, but apparently everyone else thinks he is "The Man".
Same with dance. Some is cool to watch, and others, I just don't get. Who cares? What's the point? Some of them, like ballet are okay because they demonstrate skill and are difficult. Except it annoyes me when the ballerinas aren't perfect and aren't in sync. And modern dance is an excuse to push the boundaries. I mean, I don't really know what it was before, but people hopping around practically naked and guys making isn't that great. And I don't think it's very original anymore. Everyone knows you're doing it just to do it. Oooh two guys kissing, that's a statement. yeah, yeah, we're over it.
Susan, I'm sorry if you see really deep meaning in art related things.
I'm not bitter about Dance Gala, if that's how I cam across. I just dn't understand it.

i think that if kristen is good enough to post, we all should be good enough to comment. i have to go to a professional development conference or i would write more.
Yea, most people don't appreciate art stuff. Unless it looks pretty. Or realistic. Because art is really only about skill. And making the people who look at it feel good. And by the people who look at it I clearly mean you. Because if you don't think it is good art, anyone who does is obviously wrong.
I think people have to be careful what they criticize. Ever wonder what a 'real' author would have to say about the running commentary you post on here?
In the real world most people don’t attend modern dance recitals and rarely are such events forced down your throat. I don’t think that in those brief encounters we have with such events we should judge their merits. They are important to someone. And at least the participants are spending their time dancing around on stage and not calling you at night to spew out political campaign garbage. :)
Ok. Dad said that sounded a little mean. When I was writing it I wasn't directing it at you personally, but people in general (such as the people who constantly complain about the museum). So, I appologize for being too harsh.
I've never been to a theater-type dance program. Ballet probably doesn't have enough action in it for me. And I don't think that a guy-guy interpretive dance would do much for me.
At ND, all non-science oriented freshmen are admitted to the School of Arts and Letters. Including jocks and Business majors. I got hooked on the "Letters" side of things, I guess.
And from one blogger to another, keep the stream flowing!
