to refresh my Spanish speaking skills.
Yesterday I got an e-mail from CIEE, the organization I studied abroad with in Sevilla. They are looking for applicants for their Teach Abroad program. Basically, they wantEnglish-speaking teacher assistants in Spain (and Chile, China, and Tailand) for the next academic year. I spent some time on the website reviewing the job descriptions and eligibility requirements. You don't need a teaching degree or background in education and you don't have to be fluent in Spanish. I have the required two years of Spanish courses at the collegiate level and my summer there is an added bonus.
Of course, and there is always and "of course", you have to pay to do the program. Spain would cost a minimum of $2,300 and of course for extra $$$ you can buy TEFL certification and 2 week or 4 week Spanish immersion classes in Sevilla. The base fee does include transportation over, but not lodging.
And that all compares to a very small compensation of 750 tokens a month. Less than $1,000 (the job is more or less part time... requiring an average of 12 hours a week...)
But, it is Spain...
(Not to mention the Tailand program looks pretty suite. They prefer, though not require, that you have some teaching background. It costs $1,900. It's full time and they only pay $450 /month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but do provide accommodations.)
I know, I know. I should be looking for a real job. Thanks for the support ;-)
