I don't like Waterloo.
I walked into the station today and found out that's where I was going. I did a quick google maps to figure out how to get where I was going and was on the road.
Of course, the meeting I was supposed to cover started at 8:45 AM, so clearly, by the time I packed the truck and made the hour long journey, it was over.
So, I did what any good journalist would do and hung around the mayors office to get a quick SOT.
He had held a 20 minute public access meeting to address the current road conditions in the city's residential areas.
After talking to the right people, I found a couple of streets and taped some B-Roll. Along the way, I saw a crew filling pot holes along one street. I taped it, but in retrospect, it wasn't really relevant to the story.
So, talk to a couple guys, get some footage. Seems like it wouldn't take to long, and it might not for a professional. Because I was unfamiliar with the area, it took me awhile to get around.
The newsroom called me and asked me to get some exterior footage of a John Deere plant and gave rather vague instructions. Probably they forgot that I don't know Waterloo like the back of my hand yet.
After about 45 minutes of looking, I stopped at a gas station for directions. The clerk knew what I was talking about, but as he did not actually speak English, I did not know what he was talking about.
I went to Kum & Go, where, clearly I should have gone in the first place because, well, it's Kum & Go.
They have a map on a back wall, so the clerk mapped out where I needed to go and showed the route, then wrote it down, and also gave me the number of the store so I could call if I got lost.
Either I'm a lot cuter than I thought or Kum & Go has good service. I'm going with the latter, and I'm definitely going to tell my sorority sista's that are in the biz that I think so.
Since I haven't really seen Phil in a week or so, we decided to go to the girls basketball game tonight. They beat Northwestern 68 - 42 and are tied with Ohio State at the top of the Big 10.
All seniors scored in their last game in CHA. I always figured you'd want a good game on senior night to draw a crowd, but because the opponent was behind by at least 20 the whole game, the seniors who don't usually log many minutes spent a lot of time on the court.
Johanna Solverson, unquestionably the best player, is a super-super senior. After ACL injuries in two consecutive season, she was granted a SIXTH year of eligibility. She's the kind of player a fifth grade girl's basketball team would name a play after.
Women's sports are traditionally less exciting than men's, but when you compare the two basketball teams, the women can play. I'll be interested to see how they do in the Big 10 and NCAA Tourneys. I think OSU is the better team, but we'll see.
My car got stuck in Theta's lot tonight. Again. At least I haven't had it towed yet, unlike some people
