It's my blog, I can do whatever I want on it, and that includes commenting.
Yesterday my computer took about a half hour to boot up and then explorer wasn't working and my start menu wasn't normal.
So I took it into the ITC for them to straighten out. The kid said he had never seen anything like it before, so, clearly, he just wiped the hard drive. I mean, that gets rid of all issues, right?
The think that annoys me is this: I had my hard drive wiped at the end of April - so it's not like he cleared lots of important documents, but I use my computer primarily for blogging, checking email//facebook, reading the news, and researching various things of interest. I don't have an iPod, so I don't download music (though, I do put music on from cd's. In fact, I have about 12 checked out from the library. I now use the self check out center because i'm afraid the library helpers will yell at me for having to many checked out). The point is, I use my computer for the Internet, and there should not be any files that were causing it to be so slow, especially as I haven't used Word for months. Now I have to re-bookmark, download instant messaging, etc.
I went to a 24 hour ITC tonight to check mail, etc, because I was having some serious issues connecting to the wireless Internet. The process was long and frustrating and included texting mary for the password, complaining to Mom it couldn't work, and an eventual call to Mary for help (which she was unable to provide as she was still working). I eventually got it, and I realize I'm not computer savvy, but I am half way intelligent and have a lot of common sense. If a task like this is so difficult for me to figure out, I think the programmers need to find a way to simplify the process.
Oh, this is great. So if your class is going to have a test next time you meet, might you review material with them? I would think so. Our teacher told us that she had a migraine and after she went over the quiz and a homework example, we left. I don't mind being there for only 45 minutes. Except I have to take the test tomorrow, as we will be en route to Incline on Thursday.
After that, I went to Von Maur to look for a dress to wear this weekend. Because I don't have one. I tried on a few, but nothing worked out. While I wastrying on, a girl asked the sales clerk if they had a particular dress - she bought it last weekend in Davenport, but wanted to match it to a pair of shoes. Oh, yes, the dress has been moved to the sale rack -$60 off, the clerk informs her. While the girl tries on, the clerk telephones a superior to ask how long a customer has to claim price adjustments. One week. The clerk tells this to the girl, who says her mother won't be able to take it back tonight. Is tomorrow okay, since they were closed for the 4th of July, so that technically doesn't count. The clerk tells the girl maybe, it depends on the manager working.
As I hear all this, I'm thinking of all the alternative ways to get the dress for the sale price, rather than settle for "oh well, that's too bad." I mean, $60 is $60. For instance, she could purchase the dress here for the sale price and have her mother return the other at her convenience. Or, she could have her mother lecture the sales clerk about customer service until she is satisfied. Again, $60 is $60, and they could just buy their dresses somewhere else. I am my mother's daughter.
None of my other friends have issues with their computers. I'm irate. Everythings just gone now. I decided a long time ago, that even if it may be another 5 years, my next computer will for sure be an Apple. If I've learned anything from my job, it is that.
I'll be home tommorow night.
Maybe later I'll play some solitaire on my computer. SINCE I CANT DO ANYTHING ELSE. Really, this is unacceptable.
CUL8R (like that one?!)
PS Susan is sister of the week for sending a post card - I saw it in the mailbox and my immediate reaction was "one of mary's friends must not know she's in Chicago." There is a new "Susan Mad" group in circulation - you might be able to join - one of my IA St. friends was the creator. And buy some good magazines for our trip!

Ok, I need to vent a little, and since i dont have a blog, i thought i better do it here. As if you people care. Whatever. Let me just start off by saying that i had a terrible no good very bad day. It started with confusion about what time we were leaving to walk to work, two pairs of run nylons, and the third, which i managed to put on with one leg twisted, but was so late and worried that i would run my last pair that I was forced to wear them that way "temporarily", until i could file my nails. Which of course turned into all day. Which i spent working on a project that I was predominantly making my own tasks for, because the associate on the job refused to provide clear direction. I would email him specific, concise (i mean, i am capable, folks), questions and he refused to answer. One of the emails he actually responded "thank you." - followed by a list of things to do. Honestly.
"What date range should be included in the graph?"
"Thank you."
It was enormously helpful to know that he appreciated my effort, let me tell you. SO i spend all day working on this shit, intermittantly interrupted by things like- a more senior person than the guy in charge of my project asking me, while i was getting orange juice (diluted with ice), to find some random number in a working paper file for a case that ended 7 years ago. So he wants me to dig through 3 bankers boxes to find... what again? because I didnt write it down, I was in the kitchen, GETTING JUICE. But clearly he was in a meeting, and therefore unavailable to tell me for what I was treasure-hunting. Luckily, forensic wizard that I am, I interrogated some other people on the case, found a question, and looked for the answer. AND GOT THE RIGHT ONE. That guy thinks i'm a pro now. really, it was just the only thing lucky that happened to me today. because lunch wasnt that fun, as elizabeth and i are now dieters, so we eat a granola bar and yogurt/fruit for lunch. and people were asking us questions and being like, where's your lunch. and thats awkward. So we were really looking forward to dinner, me predominantly because that's when i get to see the hot analyst that works upstairs. but he didnt come to dinner, and our dinner, which we were very psyched about (that chinese we had when you were here, char?) well clearly it was terrible. someone messed up the spices or something, but that just made me grumpy. SO then, after dinner, i keep putzing around on my stupid project, because no one has given me any feedback on the stuff i turned in yesterday or earlier today. and i am not allowed to leave, because although he has yet to acknowledge my presense, regardless of the fact that i sit DIRECTLY OUTSIDE HIS OFFICE an am STAFFED ON HIS PROJECT, my VP is still there. And you cant leave if the vp is still there. So i'm talking on gtalk, reading my email, etc. etc. until around 12pm... AFTER MIDNIGHT FOLKS... when i get the orders to reformat everything i turned in yesterday. because no one bothered to provide me with that task in the three hours i just wasted. and then i reformat, and although he specifically told me, and i called back to double check... really he didnt want me to format it the way he told me. it was just trick, he actually meant the way i had it in the first place. oopsie daisy. dont worry, i got nothin' else to do at 1 am. so then i am interrupted with the sudden task of finding out if fifteen or so certain closed-end mutual funds have announced intentions to open and record what type of real estate they invest in. clearly none of them specialize, although i am forced to check each one.. and when i report back, my associate informs me that he is sorry to say that he really didnt mean to have me check that list, because they arent exactly what we're looking for. sweet. thanks. so then i finish updating my stuff, and decide that it is time to go. so i pack up and head out, although my vp is still there, i have gotten the go ahead to send off. not by the vp, clearly he has no idea who i am, but i trot off, limping, as i have one broken nine west slingback that i spent $90 on not one month ago. and i make it home, safe and sound in a taxi, and promply slam my finger in the door. and it really hurts. and i threw a crying fit for my pitiful self. but no one was here to care or give me a hug or anything. and i have no clean towels, and no quarters an the quarter machine is broken, and i went to three different places sunday to try to buy quarters, but we dont have a kum and go, and 7/11 and walgreens and other random drugstore will not give away their quarters, even if you buy something. and when banks are open, i'm working, and even though i work at a bank, it isnt the teller kind, and we have no quarters there. and i left my shampoo in elizabeths room. i must think of an outfit to wear tomorrow that i dont need black shoes to match. although i had already planned my outfit based on the black shoes. clearly. and i dont get to go to tahoe. and although i make a lot of money, i'm poor, and terribly underpaid, considering my lack of a bonus and my like, 18 hour day. sigh. send me some love. mhoran@hlhz.com
I am worn out just reading this...
My job sucks too. I am terribly under paid, always will be and find no joy in what I am doing because all I do is walk in a circle, pass the same problems over and over again and have no way to fix them. I long to be out of cubical world.
minneapolis has lots to offer...-
i want to hear about tahoe and i also would like to see someone's pictures from the KC wedding, seeing as how i forgot my camera for that trip. thanks much
