It's 1 AM here in Bettendorf and my cat may or may not be looking at me through the basement window, but the general vacinity is pitch black. Whoever made up the color Midnight Blue at the Crayola factory is only kidding himself.

I'm very excited to move into Theta tomorrow. It's like the back-to-school jitters from second grade when you can't sleep the night before school starts. Though, to be fair, I'm sure I went to bed much earlier and consumed a considerable amount less of caffeine back then, so, really, we would need to do an experiment with control groups, in which both go to bed at a particular time, but one consumes x cans of soda a day. Usually I do about five, but Mom's been low on stock this weekend. We would also need to determine whether there would be students of every age in the groups or do separate tests for second graders as well as sophomores in college.

Also, I couldn't be more thrilled at the prospect of Mary re-emtering my life. Her new place is really great, and so are her roommates, so I can see myself wanting to go over there. Who says you out grow following around your big sister?

Taking a break from work for a couple weeks will be nice. I know I don't work that often, but I never worked too much during the school year besides weekends in high school. I plan on trying to get in 15-20 hours a week this year, and have a couple other activities going on. I have a 9:30 AM class every day this semester, because I think I will allocate my time better in the afternoon for the other activities than if I left them for morning. The goal is to not get overwhelmed with everything, which I usually do by procrastinating and letting everything build up. And I'm afraid I'll be homesick this year now that I've come home so often this summer. I don't even remember what I did on weekends last year anymore.

Oh yeah, Iowa Football. I think we're supposed to have one of the best offensive lines in the Big 10? In the country? It should be a fun season. It should be a fun year.

I'm still playing around with some of the portfolio work. In all honesty, I feel like it isn't very professional to submit blog style peices, but I just think it's more interesting. Anyone can write newspaper stuff. To me, news writing and sports writing are sort of just a formula that you plug the fact into. It's just hard to make it original, I suppose. I don't even know the chances of me getting hired on. But, I do need to apply. Especially now that I've asked a teacher for a letter of rec.

Anyway, Hopefully I'll find time to continue blogging (about running?) this fall. I should have more exciting things going on after such a laid back summer, so stay tuned.

TTYL :)
